Graduation Requirements

Christian Apologetics, M.A. (On-Campus)


The M.A. (Christian Apologetics) is a 36-credit program that includes the following:

  1. Completing the required program of study:
    • Core in Apologetics (5 credits):
      • AP 510 — Apologetics Research & Writing (1)
      • AP 628 — Why God Allows Evil (2)
      • AP691 — Seminar: In Defense of the Resurrection (3)
    • Core in Biblical Studies (11 credits):
      • AP 521 — Survey of Genesis - Malachi (3)
      • AP 522 — Survey of Matthew - Revelation (3)
      • AP 527 — Hermeneutics and Bible Study Methods (3)
      • AP 529 — Scripture: Authority, Canon and Criticism (2)
    • Core in Theology (7 credits):
      • AP 541 — Essential Christian Doctrine I (2)
      • AP 542 — Essential Christian Doctrine II (2)
      • AP 550 — Historical Theology (3)
    • Apologetics Electives (14 credits)
    • Apologetics or University Electives (3 credits)
  2. Maintaining a 2.5 average with no grade below a C in all courses to be credited toward graduation. Students cannot graduate while on probation.
  3. Completing a minimum of 24 credits in the degree program at Biola University. All degree components must be completed as graded courses. Students taking courses in the modular format are required to take a minimum of 20 credits in residency (on Biola's campus).
  4. Completing the entire program in no more than seven years.

Science and Religion, M.A.


  1. Satisfactorily complete 36 semester credits as outlined in the curriculum.
  2. Maintain a 2.5 average with no grade below a C in all courses to be credited toward graduation.
  3. Complete a minimum of 24 credits at Biola University. All degree components must be completed as graded courses.
  4. Students are placed on academic probation if their grade point average for any semester falls below 2.5 and will remain on probation as long as the single semester or cumulative grade point average remains below 2.5. Probation students are granted one semester in which to bring their academic work up to the required level (2.5) for continuance in the program. A student cannot graduate while on probation.
  5. Complete the entire program in no more than five years.
