Year Four: EMBARK Beyond Biola!

career_roadmap

  • Knowledge: Think back on the work experiences where you practiced the skills employers are looking for (revisit NACE report and AAC&U report). Not only can this help clarify your career direction, it will also help you respond more effectively to common interview questions.
  • Planning: Identify target jobs, stepping stone jobs, fallback jobs and establish your job search goals/timeline. Note: it often takes 6-12 months to land a full-time professional job whether you attend Biola or another university. Therefore we recommend applying for jobs early in your senior year.
  • Action: Embark on your professional job search by (1) tailoring resumes and cover letters to specific job descriptions, (2) practicing interviewing (a Career Counselor can help with mock interviews), (3) investing in professional attire, (4) informing your network you are seeking employment, and (5) compiling good work references. Apply and follow up regularly with employers. Persistence, if done professionally, is usually viewed positively by employers. Godspeed!
