Though Biola does not have traditional 'fitness trails,' we have measured out four routes for your running/jogging pleasure.
NOTE: Some routes do involve parking lots or running alongside roads with cars, so please be careful!
Running Safety
The following tips for runners are adapted from the Road Runners Club of America:
- DON’T WEAR HEADPHONES. Use your ears to be aware of your surroundings. Your ears may help you avoid dangers your eyes may miss during evening or early morning runs.
- Run against traffic so you can observe approaching automobiles. By facing on-coming traffic, you may be able to react quicker than if it is behind you.
- Look both ways before crossing. Be sure the driver of a car acknowledges your right-of-way before crossing in front of a vehicle.
- Obey traffic signals.
- Carry identification or write your name, phone number, and blood type on the inside sole of your running shoe. Include any medical information.
- Always stay alert and aware of what’s going on around you. The more aware you are, the less vulnerable you are.
- Carry a cell phone or change for a phone call. Know the locations of public phones along your regular route.
- Avoid unlit areas, especially at night.
- Wear reflective material if you must run before dawn or after dark. Avoid running on the street when it is dark.
- CALL POLICE IMMEDIATELY if something happens to you or someone else, or you notice anyone out of the ordinary. It is important to report incidents immediately
Running Routes
- Start at the front entrance of the Fitness Center (building 18).
- Travel through Lot O.
- Right at Sutherland Way.
- Left at University Drive.
- Loop around the La Mirada Blvd entrance guard shack traveling back the way you came on University Drive.
- Travel through Lot I and Lot G along Stewart Drive then exit the campus gate at Hart Hall (you will need your ID card).
- Right at Roma Drive.
- Right at Biola Avenue.
- Right at Talbot entrance then travel through Lot A along the hedge row through Lot B.
- Left at Sutherland Way.
- Right at Lot O then back to the front entrance of the Fitness Center
- Start at the front entrance of the Fitness Center (building 18).
- Travel through Lot O then across Sutherland Way and onto Horton Way.
- Stay on Horton Way past Alpha and Sigma.
- Left at University Drive.
- Travel past the La Mirada entrance guard shack staying to the right.
- Right at the dirt trail traveling along the bluff housing.
- Right at the foot bridge.
- Left at University Drive.
- Travel through Lot I and Lot G along Stewart Drive.
- Make a U turn at Hart Hall and travel back up Stewart Drive past Stewart and Hope along Sixth Street Way.
- Right at University Drive.
- Left at Chase Way.
- Right at Rood Way.
- Travel through Lot B and Lot A along the hedge row.
- Exit the gate at the Talbot entrance.
- Left at Biola Avenue.
- Left at the Lot C entrance.
- Travel through the modular buildings and the tennis courts.
- Travel along the outfield fence of the softball field then along the soccer field.
- Travel through Lot C and along the sidewalk past McNally 52D and 52C.
- Travel across University Drive going past Metzger, the Library, Rosemead, Health Center and Art Gallery.
- Right at Sutherland Way and the Bell Tower.
- Right at Chase Way and back to the Fitness Center.
- Start at the front entrance of the Fitness Center (building 18).
- Travel through Lot O.
- Right at Sutherland Way.
- Right at University Drive.
- Right at University Drive again passing between the parking structure, soccer field and pool.
- Continue on University Drive to the outdoor basketball court.
- Left at Sixth Street Way then onto Stewart Drive going past Hope Hall, Stewart Hall and then Hart Hall.
- Make a U turn at the end of Hart Hall then travel back the way you came on Stewart Drive.
- Transition onto Hope Street through Lot G and Lot I.
- Transition onto University Drive all the way to the La Mirada entrance guard shack.
- Staying to the right of guard shack transition onto the dirt trail.
- Travel along the dirt trail to the foot bridge.
- Right at the foot bridge.
- Right at University Drive.
- Left at Sigma onto Horton Way.
- Stay on Horton Way to the intersection of Horton Way and Sutherland Way.
- Right at Sutherland Way.
- Right at Rood Way.
- Travel along the hedge row through Lot B and Lot A.
- Exit the Talbot entrance gate.
- Left at Biola Avenue.
- Left at University Drive which is the Biola Avenue entrance to campus.
- Right at McNally campus entrance traveling to the left of McNally 52C and 52D.
- Travel between the soccer fields at the edge of Lot C to the outfield fence of the softball field.
- At the scoreboard, turn right then travel between the tennis courts and the modular buildings then exit the gate to Biola Avenue.
- Right at Biola Avenue.
- Right at University Drive.
- Left at Metzger passing the Library, Rosemead, Health Center and Art Gallery.
- Right at Sutherland Way and the Bell Tower.
- Right at Chase Way and back to the Fitness Center.
- Start at the front entrance of the Fitness Center (building 18).
- Travel through Lot O.
- Left at Sutherland Way.
- Travel through campus passing the Café, SUB, Jesus Mural, Bell Tower, etc…
- Left at Talbot Drive.
- Left at University Drive.
- Follow University Drive passing Metzger, McNally campus entrance, Library, etc… to the outdoor basketball court.
- Right at Sixth Street Way.
- Travel along Stewart Drive past Hope Hall, Stewart Hall and Hart Hall.
- Make a U turn at the end of Hart traveling back up Stewart Drive.
- Transition onto Hope Street traveling through Lot G and Lot I.
- Transition onto University Drive until you reach the La Mirada entrance guard shack.
- Make a U turn at the guard shack coming back the way you came on University Drive.
- Right at Horton Way.
- Travel on Horton Way to the intersection of Horton Way and Sutherland Drive.
- Cross over Sutherland Drive traveling through Lot O and back to the Fitness Center.
