Beginning with students in the 2021-22 catalog year, all students in the Business Administration degree program must complete an internship as part of their program requirements. This internship should be completed before your last semester in the program and may be completed either as a for-credit course (BUSN 460) or as an internship completed not for academic credit. In either case, the internship must meet minimum requirements and be approved.

Steps for meeting the internship requirement outside of the BUSN 460 course:
- Review the requirements for an approved internship, as shown below. In order to ensure you meet the internship requirement, please do not start your internship until it has been approved!
- Search for and secure an Internship that meets the requirements. Resources to help you get an internship include: checking with your advisor, Handshake, Career Services, LinkedIn, friends/family. If you are unsure whether an internship will meet the requirements for approval, find time to connect with your academic advisor to discuss the opportunity.
- Fill out the internship application form.
- Upon completion of the internship, two deliverables are required in order to receive credit:
- Ask your internship supervisor to send an email to email@example.com that confirms your completion of the internship, documenting your start and end date and the total number of hours you spent on the job. Optionally, they may attach a letter of recommendation that describes your contribution to their organization.
- Include a page or section on your ePortfolio that describes your internship experience and reflects upon what you’ve learned. Send a link to this reflection to your advisor and to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- The experience has a defined beginning and end, and a job description with desired qualifications.
- There are clearly defined learning objectives/goals related to the professional goals of the student’s academic coursework.
- There is supervision by a professional with expertise and educational and/or professional background in the field of the experience.
- The skills or knowledge learned must be transferable to other employment settings.
- There is routine feedback by the experienced supervisor.
- There are resources, equipment, and facilities provided by the host employer that support learning objectives/goals.
- We encourage students to do paid internships, as these are more likely to provide a better experience and enhance career prospects. Students are allowed to complete unpaid internships, but employers must comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- The student must complete a minimum of six weeks and 90-135 total hours as part of the internship.
- Finally, the internship must be approved by the student’s academic advisor.
