In order to do research (questionnaires, surveys, interviews, etc.) requiring the participation of students, either on and/or off-campus, the researcher (whether student, faculty, administrator, or external organization) must:
- have their research project, survey/instrument approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and
- obtain permission from the Office of the Dean of Student Development (562) 944-0351, ext: 5830).
Required policies/procedures and forms are available at the Institutional Review Board website.
Research assigned by faculty as part of an undergraduate class curriculum does not require this approval; the faculty in charge is responsible and expected to exercise wise discretion and awareness of such protocols.
