SCORR Conference Volunteer Information

Overview


What is SCORR?

SCORR is the Student Congress on Racial Reconciliation, a national two-day conference during which students, staff, and faculty from various Christian colleges and universities join together to celebrate and learn of the diversity within the body of Christ. Conference attendees will engage in dialogue and instruction that seeks transformational growth, resulting in the building of God’s Kingdom on earth.

This year's conference is February 16-18, 2017, on campus at Biola!

How You Can Help!

SCORR has run for 20 years because Biola students donate their time and gifts and skills to make it work...so as we prepare for Year 21, we need you! It takes nearly 100 student volunteers to make SCORR a success, so come be a part of our team and make a difference!

Marketing & Design Team


Marketing and Design Team

Lead: Zoe Alava
Coordinators: Keanu Banayat, Joshua Gonzales

Volunteers: 4-6

Responsibilities:

  1. Promotion
    1. Update website (and possible conference app) with all relevant information
      1. Schedules, speaker bios, etc.
    2. Create and manage all conference social media (before and during conference)
      1. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
    3. Advertise SCORR conference (pre-conference)
      1. Create and submit posters to print shop, post around campus
      2. Digital signage in Caf, etc.
    4. Submit graphics and/or short video for rotating screens
    5. Connect with The Chimes
      1. Pre-article
      2. Post-article
    6. Create SCORR montage video
    7. Social Media Competition during the conference
  2. Decorations
    1. Incorporate UCM visual and art into the conference
  3. Lead and manage volunteer team

Volunteers: 8-10 [ALREADY FILLED!]


Responsibilities:

  1. Pre/post conference:
    1. Create safe spaces for pre-SCORR and post-SCORR conversation and reflection
    2. Panels
    3. Partner with campus clubs and organizations to host events (BSA, SGA, Spiritual Development, Res Life, Unidos, etc.)
    4. Pre-conference worship night
  2. During conference
    1. Student events/mixers
    2. Story Slam
    3. Poetry Lounge
    4. Something to do on Saturday night

Sessions Team

Volunteers: 15-20

Responsibilities:

  1. Workshops
    1. Book and assign all rooms for breakouts and main sessions
    2. Coordinate chapel scanning and chapel accountability
    3. Prepare all classrooms (media, markers, water, etc.)
    4. Coordinate workshop assessments
  2. Keynotes
    1. Create and run Propresenter
    2. Welcome and support artists and speakers
    3. Set up and manage green rooms
    4. Manage volunteer team (welcoming and ushers) of _____
    5. Coordinate with UCM videography, Events Services, etc. as needed
    6. Coordinate post-conference assessment during final keynote session
  3. Execute pre-conference survey and post-conference assessment (inquire about online surveys)
  4. Lead and manage volunteer team

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage resources booth during conference
    1. Answer questions
    2. Give directions
    3. Run lost & found
    4. Sell t-shirts at table in front of Caf
    5. Brainstorm meet and greet
  2. Manage Friday luncheons (visiting students)
    1. Fun ice breaker/ get to know you events
    2. Stories from past SCORR students
    3. Coordinate with Bon Appetit
    4. Make reservations and manage the information once it has been completed.
  3. Plan and manage SCORR Action Network
    1. Friday and Saturday
    2. 3-4 pm in Andrews Banquet Hall
    3. Having designated areas for the groups to go
    4. Coordinate with internal and external constituents
    5. Signage with where everything is
    6. Get images for presentation
  4. Provide networking opportunities and extra resources to students

    2. Manage registration check-in during conference (Thursday afternoon > Sunday)
  2. Housing
    1. On campus housing volunteer recruitment
    2. Partner with Admissions to hire Eagle Hosts
    3. Housing pairing
